Beest™
Part rugged multi-tool, part bumble bee, part Library of Alexandria, part meditation - all Beest. The Beest is a rugged, 100 ft, 30+ lumen, 20 hour, 4 LED flashlight with the following features:
- Rubberized black and yellow chassis containing an air-tight, dust-tight, waterproof compartment, constructed with upcycled bicycle tubing gaskets, enabling the Beest to float in water and protect its payload.
- 25 feet of removable 550 lb. test paracord, which is super strong, super soft, mildew, rot, fungus, insect, mold and corrosion resistant nylon rope. Parachute cord, aka paracord, can be used in a pinch to make a variety of tools, e.g. bow, nap sack, nets, hammock, tent string, noose, fishing line, floss, snares and traps, rock sling/staff sling, camp perimeter security with bell, log pull, pole lashing, sandals, thread for sewing repairs, hang food from a tree to keep safe from critters, bow drill string, fishing nets, tourniquet, wash cloth, etc.
- EVR1 Canon - contained in the rugged chassis. The EVR1 Canon is a 8GB Micro SDHC card that contains humanity's greatest hits, which includes the US Army Field Survival Guide, the CIA World Fact Book, the entire Wikipedia corpus, a robust selection of how-to manuals (languages, math, farming, construction, bee keeping, hunting, fishing, etc.), the Eastern and Western literary canons, the world's sacred texts and numerous essays from leading physicists, philosophers, psychologists and spiritual leaders. All EVR1 customers have online access to the EVR1 Canon for reading, downloading, updating, etc.
- EVR1 Community - exclusive online access to EVR1 community of customers/fans/mystics from around the world, who share links, stories and wisdom on the nature of the human experience.
However, the Beest is more than a tool. It is a meditation on being, from the German "bist", calling you to ponder the nature of your being, your connection to the human excellence contained in the Beest. Secondly, the paracord is wrapped using a unique weave that enables you to quickly access a single piece of paracord, keep it secured to the tool and be able to reassemble - which itself is a meditation, one cord (non-duality) woven through itself (duality) to reveal a pattern and use.
Data
The EVR1 Canon contains humanity's greatest hits, the culmination of the 200,000 year-old human story, an interconnected weave of spirit and matter, art and science, mystery and certainty, faith and reason.
The works in this Canon are humanity's best, representing a library worth several thousand dollars. If you skimmed the cream off the top of the internet, you would be left with the few GB that comprise the EVR1 Canon.
Construction
The beast is made of a plastic chassis with a tail-cap carabiner, rubber features (much of it upcycled bicycle tubing), 25 ft. of 550 lb paracord, 4 LEDs and a battery pack (that holds 3 AA batteries - we recommend you use rechargable batteries). The seal that protects the Micro SDHC card is no ordinary seal - it is made from material designed to withstand 950 PSI, 8,000 volts and temperatures up to 500F and electromagnetic radiation.
Once sealed it is placed in the waterproof cargo hold, underneath the battery pack. At 6 inches long, and weighing 6 oz. the Beest is solid, heavy and purposefully so, such that you don't forget you have it, and the precious cargo therein.
Use
It is designed to be used as a flashlight, taken on your adventures, kept with your rescue/emergency gear, played with and meditated upon daily, whether at home or work or boat or car. To use as a flashlight, press the black button. Press once more to turn it off. Wherever you keep it, be sure its someplace visible so that you can see, touch and meditate upon it everyday. If you find yourself in need of the paracord, simply cut the welding knot opposite the on-off switch. You may also re-wrap the paracord, tie it off and fuse together ends (with a lighter and pliers) when finished.
Accessing the Wisdom
As a Beest owner, you can access this wisdom in two ways:
- [Coming Soon] The EVR1 customers-only Wisdom Locker. To be launched in 2012, the Wisdom Locker will contain the full text versions of each of these titles, allowing you the ability to access the data online, as well as download it to other devices for storage, printing, etc.
- By removing the EVR1 Canon to retrieve the data on the Micro SD memory card. Simply cut the seal with a razor blade, remove the Micro SDHC Card and place into an Android phone or a PC or Mac, via a USB/micro SDHC converter.
Like the NASA Voyager's Golden Records, the Beest is a symbolic expression of human excellence and like the Islamic Tasbih, the Hindu Mala Beads, the Christian Rosary, the Tibetan Prayer Wheel and Jewish Mezuzah, the Beest is a meditation, putting your life in a rich, connected context, helping you to choose a life of passion, wonder and integrity.
